Farid Esack and Asghar Ali Engineer are two figures who initiated liberation. In this liberation, they talk a lot about upholding justice. With different backgrounds, these two figures contextualize and respond to contemporary social, economic, and political challenges. This paper aims to find out how Farid Esack and Asghar Ali Engineer think and their hermeneutical approach. The method used in the research is descriptive analytical. The results of this study are: first, the hermeneutical method initiated by Esack offers six keys that form the basis of his hermeneutical approach, Asghar, in interpreting the Qur'an, often emphasizes an understanding of the context. Asghar will review the socio-history when the verse is revealed and understand the text according to the context. These two figures both use contextualization in their hermeneutics; secondly, regarding justice, these two figures both depart from liberation theology, although with slightly different ideas. Esack wanted to eradicate the triple oppression in South Africa at that time, namely apartheid, patriarchy, and capitalism. He strongly opposed injustice. Meanwhile, Asghar departs from the liberative spirit that exists in Islamic history and the Qur'an. With his background as a preacher, he then brought this up to oppose injustice in the Indian context where he lived
