Abstract
Often, poor student performance is caused by interrelated factors. The main factor is relatively low intrinsic motivation to learn. Strong motivation to learn is a major factor that can influence learners' learning. Motivation in this context is often undermined by social networks, peer pressure and students' attitudes towards the subject matter. When students realize that the lesson is irrelevant to their daily lives, they may no longer be eager to learn. Another important factor is ineffective teaching methods. Many teachers still traditional methods that are less interactive, this can make students feel difficult in understanding the subject matter. Various factors that inhibit student learning motivation so that student failure in the academic world often becomes a challenge for the students themselves, without realizing these factors are considered mediocre even though these factors have a tremendous impact on student learning motivation and academic failure, these factors include economic factors, broken homes, lack of parental attention, environment, wrong parenting, misuse of technology and many other factors that can affect student academic failure, so that in the teaching and learning process sometimes students can be said to be unprepared in learning because they have not united their intention to learn, this is where students face extraordinary challenges between the tasks that must be done from the teacher and their readiness to learn. The purpose of this study is to critically examine the factors that lead to students' academic failure. The research methodology used in this study is a literature study, using books, articles, academic journals, and case studies. Analysis was conducted to identify internal and external factors that affect academic performance.
